The Beauty of Collaboration
Strength is in numbers. In the case of Kittay House and the Bronx Jewish Community Council, collaboration resulted in a beautiful New Year for isolated and needy individuals in surrounding neighborhoods.
Using recyclable tote bags, over twenty Kittay tenant volunteers assembled packages filled with jars of honey, symbolic for a sweet New Year, along with other traditional staples for Rosh Hashanah, like bottles of wine and challah. In addition to providing the ingredients and supplies, the Bronx Jewish Community Council (BJCC) arranged for volunteers to deliver the packaged goodies in time for New Year.
Kittay House and the BJCC have been collaborating on community volunteer projects for the past 10 years. Tenants have already committed to their next project, which will be to raise money for the BJCC Food Pantry. The volunteers from Kittay enjoy a deep sense of satisfaction... and their efforts are appreciated. "I love working with Kittay tenants," says Niti Minkove, the Director of Volunteers at BJCC. "They're optimistic, have a sense of humor, and do a terrific job!"
