How do I find resources to help me care for someone?

How do I find resources to help me care for someone?

The number of services for physically and cognitively impaired older adults, their families, and caregivers is growing as our population ages, although in some communities services are either difficult to locate or differentiate among a number of agencies serving the elderly. A good place to start is the Internet, with a plethora of websites promoting themselves as eldercare locators. At some future time, I will include a list of websites for government and non-government agencies supporting the needs of the aged, infirm and the people who love and care for them.

A word of caution: as with any printed material, read information contained in websites (and blogs) with a healthy skepticism – just because something is on the Internet, does not make it true. If in doubt, check the information with another independent resource and talk to your loved one’s doctors before proceeding, especially in regard to medications. Remember, each time you talk to someone, ask for referrals and phone numbers of others who may assist you.
