Help Staying Social

Because it is more difficult to get around or be active in the community, frail elders may spend the majority of time at home and isolated. But humans are social beings by nature. Here are some suggestions for how to socialize more.

Adult Day Social Programs

Jewish Home Lifecare offers Adult Day Social Programs in Manhattan and the Bronx.

Adult Day Social programs are for seniors seeking socialization. Most programs provide social activities, nutritious meals, recreational activities such as art, music, and games, and depending on the program, some health-related services.  Special recreational and therapeutic activities have been created to improve daily living skills and cognitive abilities and reduce stress.  Most programs are offered for a few hours a day, one to five days a week, usually during weekdays.

These programs may be covered by Medicaid or paid for privately.

To find out more about the Manhattan Program contact (212) 870-5090 or for the Bronx Program contact (718) 410-1479, or click here.

To find additional Adult Day Social Programs near you, speak to your local Department of Aging office, health care provider (doctor, social worker), or hospital discharge planner.
