Respite Care Services

Respite care programs provide temporary and in some instances up to twenty-four hour care to give a break to primary caregivers. These programs are usually offered by Nursing Homes or Home Health Care agencies.  The care may be provided in the person’s home, at an adult day care center, or other facility.

These services are usually not covered by private insurance.

Jewish Home Lifecare’s Westchester campus offers the Home Away From Home Program to provide temporary nursing home care for the frail elderly while providing needed respite for their caregivers. Call (914) 864-5621 to learn more.

Contact your health insurance provider or long term care insurance plan to find out if respite care is covered.  Usually Medicaid will cover respite care but Medicare will not.

Adult Day Programs

Adult Day programs often provide temporary care for elders, when regular caregivers cannot be there. See Adult Day Health Programs and Adult Day Social Programs for more information.
