Does enrolling in a Medicare Part D drug plan save money?

If you spend a lot of money on medications, you may save money using a Medicare Part D drug plan.

It may be helpful to compare what you pay now for the medications you need, with what you would pay if you enrolled in a plan. Remember to include the plan’s monthly premium when determining how much you would spend on the plan.

There are two ways to find out how much you would pay with a Medicare drug plan:

• call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227)
• use Medicare’s online comparison tool at www.medicare.gov

It is helpful to have both your Medicare card and list of medications ready before calling or visiting the Medicare Web site.
