How do you enroll in Medicare Part D?

Once you’ve decided which type and specific plan is best, there are several ways to enroll in Part D prescription drug coverage:

• Click here to fill out the enrollment application online.
  
  
• Apply by phone, by calling: 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
  
• Apply in person at your local Social Security Office. Click here to find the Social Security location nearest to you.

Enrollment note: If you don’t sign up when you are first eligible, you may pay a penalty fee.  You may sign up for prescription drug coverage when you first become eligible for Medicare (this is three months before the month you turn age 65 until three months after you turn age 65). If you receive Medicare due to a disability, you are first eligible for Part D approximately three years after you start receiving disability benefits.
