How much does Medicare Part D cost?

Each Medicare Part D plan has different costs. You are usually required to pay:

  • a monthly premium
  • an annual deductible (an initial payment out of pocket before you start receiving discounts)
  • part of the cost of each prescription. (The part of the prescription you pay is called a copayment or coinsurance.)

There are two ways to find out how much you would pay for a Medicare Part D plan:

  • call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-700-633-4227)
  • use Medicare’s online comparison tool at www.medicare.gov

It is helpful to have both your Medicare card and list of medications ready before calling or visiting the Medicare Web site.
