Screening for Mental Health: Start to Untangle Your Moods!

Depression, characterized often by feelings of loneliness, hopelessness and loss of pleasure in usual activities, is not a normal part of aging. Depression is a serious medical condition, yet 75 percent of depressed older Americans are not receiving treatment.

A number of factors keep older Americans from seeking help, including physical illnesses that may mask underlying mental conditions.

To help, Jewish Home Lifecare periodically holds free mental health screening events at all three divisions.  The free screenings address bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder as well as depression. Often these illnesses exist concurrently and can emerge or become more severe because of stress, trauma, and loss.

Local residents concerned about themselves or a loved one can take advantage of these free mental health screenings.
