The Biobus made a stop at Jewish Home Lifecare’s Manhattan campus as part of an educational event for the Geriatric Career Development (GCD) students. The BioBus is a green-energy powered research lab on wheels designed to literally deliver “a real world science experience,” according to founder, Dr. Ben Dubin-Thaler.
The BioBus visit sparked the interest of science and medical reporter Dr. Jay Adlersberg of WABC-TV’s Eyewitness News program. The clip below, aired on WABC-TV on August 5, shows highlights of Dr. Jay’s day with the GCD students, elders in the nursing home and with GCD teachers and staff.
Jewish Home’s GCD Program is a ground-breaking experience-based youth work force development program providing disadvantaged New York City students with academic support, intergenerational mentoring, college preparation, job training and clinical skills to help them develop careers in healthcare, preferably in geriatrics. The award-winning program focuses on students in grades 10-12. Students commit to the program for 3 years which includes weekly educational sessions, even through the summer.
