Dr. Myint Si was honored with a 2011 WESTY Award in a ceremony on October 19, 2011. The WESTY (West Side Sprit Thanks You) Awards, bestowed by publisher Manhattan Media, recognize the special contributions of individuals to the West Side community.
Dr. Si runs the Short-Stay Rehabilitation Program at Jewish Home Lifecare’s 106th Street campus, where she oversees the program that provides post-operative rehabilitation and other post acute support for those recovering from major surgery or need comprehensive rehabilitation from cancer treatment and other conditions.
Her patients have always considered her warm and compassionate as well as someone extremely capable and stellar in her management and evaluation of complex geriatric issues.
“Despite my years of practice,” she says, “I never get over the thrill of seeing a stroke victim walk again, or talk, or move a previously paralyzed limb. To see hope where there was only despair.”
Dr. Si personifies personalized medicine as practiced at Jewish Home Lifecare.
“I always remind young doctors that the most productive ten minutes they can spend is sitting at a patient’s bedside and talking. That can be the most important element in the patient’s recovery.”
Dr. Si. was born in Burma and was one of the first graduates of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine Department of Geriatrics and Adult Development Fellowship Program in Geriatrics. She also continues to teach both Geriatric Fellows and Medical Students.
Her colleagues and patients will tell you that Dr. Si is on campus 24/7. A true Westsider!
