Environmental Responsibility Coordinator Joins Us

Jewish Home Lifecare is pleased to announce that Alaine Marx has joined us in the position of Environmental Responsibility Coordinator. This position was made possible through a grant from the Brenner Family Foundation.

Alaine will be coordinating the efforts of the Environmental Responsibility Workgroup. With our Environmental Responsibility Coordinator on board, Jewish Home Lifecare is looking forward to an even more effective centralized workgroup that can implement the strategies needed to achieve our “green” goals.

Jewish Home Lifecare’s Environmental Responsibility Workgroup (ERW) was formed in the summer of 2007 to examine and implement strategies to minimize the environmental impact of our organization.

Currently, the ERW has staff and trustee representatives from each of the system’s three campuses – Bronx, Manhattan and Westchester, as well as the Community Services Division and the Transportation Department. Representatives from Materials Management, Information Technology, Development and Public Affairs also actively participate. The ERW meets monthly to examine issues, set goals, share knowledge and resources, and evaluate our success meeting the goals.

Local Environmental Responsibility workgroups are made up of all levels of staff from departments throughout the organization, including administration, plant operations, food and nutrition services, housekeeping, nursing, religious life, human resources, and trustees. Residents also participate. The ERW has made tremendous progress in the past year thanks to the dedicated efforts of staff, elders, and trustees.

Alaine holds a B.A. in International and Global Studies, with a concentration in Global Environment and a Minor in Environmental Studies. She has participated in many environmental projects, including establishing an energy efficiency monitoring program at Brandeis University, and coordinated new procedures for a storm water plan while on the Waltham Massachusetts Environmental Committee.
