Jewish Home Lifecare’s Professional Education Center hosted its first conference of the Fall/Winter Conference Series: “Elder Falls Prevention and Research” on Tuesday, September 25th at the Bronx Campus. The presenters shared their falls prevention expertise to help home healthcare and long term care facilities offer fall prevention programs to elders. Falls and fall-related injuries are a national and state health priority. Sharing knowledge is a valuable tool in preventing injuries from falls.
Healthcare administrators, physical/occupation therapists, physicians and nurses from the NY metro area joined us, along with those who traveled down from Albany and Boston to participate.
We were honored to have distinguished presenter Dorothy Baker, Ph.D., RNCS, member of the Connecticut Collaboration for Fall Prevention and Yale University School of Medicine, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics as our keynote.
The Bronx JHHLS Falls Committee – led by Glenn Stewart, MS, OTR/L, Associate Director of Occupational Therapy, Bronx Division - shared their research and assessment, tracking, and benchmarking techniques. The members of the Bronx Falls Committee – Benjamin Kropsky, MD, Medical Director; Renee Hofman, MS, R.Ph, Director of Pharmacy Services and Naomi Cohen, PT, MPH, Assistant Director, Physical Therapy – discussed physical, medical, and pharmacological risk factors.
