Jewish Home Lifecare Gets Greener: Joins Jewish Greening Fellowship

 Jewish Home Lifecare was one of the nineteen agencies selected to participate in the competitive and innovative Jewish Greening Fellowship Program.  The Jewish Greening Fellowship Program aims to cultivate environmental change leadership among Jewish community professionals, reduce the environmental impact of Jewish organizations in the New York area and generate meaningful responses to global climate change while strengthening Jewish life.

Jewish Home Lifecare’s green efforts are steered by the Environmental Responsibility Workgroup, which was created in August 2007.  The group has made significant progress in the past four years; sustainability is now part of the culture of the entire Jewish Home Lifecare System.

 Gregory Poole-Dayan, associate administrator at Jewish Home Lifecare’s Sarah Neuman Center, is the staff initiator of the environmental efforts throughout Jewish Home.  He said he is “optimistic and excited about planning for future initiatives in reducing energy, paper, and water use, as well as using knowledge gained through the fellowship to assist Jewish Home in pursuing green building design.”

 Jewish Home latest strides in its commitment to the environment were in June when Jewish Home teamed up with Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe Program to help collect 500 pairs of sneakers to be recycled to create playground surfaces for children.
