Jewish Home Lifecare Opens New Affordable Senior Housing in the Bronx

Jewish Home Lifecare debuted their newest HUD Section 202 apartment building for low income seniors at its Bronx campus during a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception held on Thursday, June 3.Plaque

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Gardens, located on Webb Avenue, features 71 one-bedroom apartments along with community spaces and landscaped outdoor areas for tenants. All apartments and community spaces are handicapped accessible and tenant selection is by lottery. Weinberg Gardens tenants will have access to the range of services  Jewish Home Lifecare offers, when and if, they need them. Funding for the building project was provided in part by the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation.

Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz Jr., participated in the opening ceremony. “I stand here kvelling on this important occasion. Looking around this structure, I see that this was money well spent”, said Diaz.  During her remarks, Lynn Oberlander, Chair, Jewish Home Lifecare Bronx Division Board,  stated, “It is imperative to provide seniors with a place they can call home and know that quality healthcare is only a few steps away. The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Gardens will meet both those needs while being affordable for those with a limited income.”

 

Jewish Home Lifecare was one of the first nursing homes to provide subsidized housing for seniors with built-in services to support elders as they age in place.  In addition to Weinberg Gardens, Jewish Home sponsors two additional HUD 202 buildings in the Bronx:  The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Riverdale House and the Kenneth Gladstone Building.

Kittay House, a Mitchell Lama independent senior living residence, is also located on Jewish Home’s Bronx campus.
