Jewish Home to Re-develop 106th Street Campus
The Jewish Home and Hospital Lifecare System has announced plans to re-develop the Home’s 106th street campus in Manhattan. Construction is expected to begin in 2009.
This development will create an entirely new skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, supporting care in home like “neighborhoods” and serving as a center for the Home’s services to those in the surrounding community.
In addition to providing a setting for care, the new facility will be specifically designed to enhance engagement with the local community. It will include such features as public meeting spaces, a children’s day care program and an intensive schedule of health forums, wellness seminars and other community events.
At a time when there is increasing concern about responsible stewardship of the environment, Jewish Home has made a commitment to “green building” techniques for the new facility. A green building will not only help maintain the quality of the environment, it will surround our patients and residents with gardens and natural lighting — an oasis in the heart of the city.
In developing this “Center of Excellence” for New York’s elders, The Jewish Home will maintain a vigorous dialog with the local community. Working with our neighbors, we will create a state of the art facility that will be vitally engaged with the life of the city and a source of pride for our neighborhood.
Please feel free to come to the Jewish Home to view plans for the new facility. There is an exhibit of the plans in the administrative corridor, just off the lobby, at the 120 West 106th Street entrance (between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues.)
