To celebrate all the hard work contributed by the participants in the Bronx Intergenerational Youth and Geriatric Career Development programs, JHL threw the students an unusual party.

A professional drum circle organizer, Randy Brody, was asked to facilitate a drum session in which students were invited to play.

Diana Vayserfirova, Volunteer Services Manager in the Bronx, said the event was a big hit with the high schoolers. She explains, “Drumming lets people be someone else for a little while. It is like acting that way.”

One of the volunteers who attended conveyed her enthusiasm, “It was an excellent party. It showed respect to other cultures and welcomed the tradition of drum music. I really enjoyed singing and dancing.”

Randy Brody, founder and director of Sound Directions, and its affiliate group, Drum-N-Dance, is a professional music educator and an accomplished World Music drummer and percussionist. His drumming programs build community, encourage creativity, release stress, build teamwork, enhance wellness, fight depression, improve communications, and allow participants of all abilities to have fun in the process.
