The Short Stay/Subacute Rehabilitation program at Jewish Home Lifecare/Sarah Neuman Center in Mamaroneck has been extended from five days a week of individual physical, occupational and speech therapy to include a sixth day of group therapy.
In 2008, 634 patients were admitted to this Sarah Neuman program, ranging in age from 50 to 100, and close to 85 percent returned home to their community.
The range of patients seeking subacute care include people in need of rehabilitation following: a stroke or heart attack; hip fractures; burn injuries; complex surgical procedures such as colostomy, hip or knee replacements, amputations or multiple fractures; multiple trauma; heart operations or nervous system disorders. It is also appropriate for those in need of complex wound care or who are undergoing cancer treatments.
