Policies and Procedures

Policies define how the JHL IRB operates in the pursuit of human subjects’ protection. Policies apply to all research conducted at the Jewish Home. Guidance is designed to assist the researcher and IRB member in understanding, interpreting, and applying the regulations and policies.

Research, Investigation, and Clinical Trials

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee whose purpose is to ensure that the rights and welfare of human subjects are protected in research. In accordance with federal and state regulations governing research, an IRB must review and approve research involving human subjects (including Research Involving Children) prior to its initiation.

Research Misconduct

The purpose of this policy is to to establish standards and procedures that ensures truth, integrity and credibility in research; to prevent scientific misconduct; to deal promptly and fairly with allegations and evidence of scientific misconduct.

Conflicts of Interest in Research

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that the design, conduct, or reporting of research, will not be biased by any conflicting commitment or financial interest of those investigators who are responsible for the research.

Protected Health Information in Research

The purpose of this policy and the Guidelines regarding Deidentification of Health Information in Research is to protect patient privacy and and maintain the confidentiality of their information by limiting the use of protected health information to minimally necessary amounts in research studies.
