If the proposal is approved for submission to the Institutional Review Board, before the proposal can be submitted, it is first required that the investigators meet with their liaisons and involved departments to determine feasibility. At this point in the process, all involved parties should discuss how pre-recruitment will be completed and complete the pre-recruitment checklist. Note: It is the responsibility of the study PI to collect the necessary signatures.
If the PI of a research project is not a member of Jewish Home Lifecare staff, the project will require two Jewish Home staff members as liaisons for the project. This is required regardless of whether the study is done on JHL property. The liaisons will consist of one clinical or department liaison and one research liaison.
NOTE: Liaisons CANNOT give external researchers lists with names of residents/clients to recruit.
Most external PI’s will require assistance with pre-recruitment. If pre-recruitment involves a time commitment for JHL staff that is beyond regularly accepted activities, the PI must estimate how many hours a week will be necessary for this task. Regularly accepted activities could involve any one of the following:
Any pre-recruitment procedures that are more involved than the regularly accepted activities may create additional costs to the PI. The details of pre-recruitment procedures must be worked out between the PI and the relevant JHL staff. Compliance is required with regulatory and financial policies (e.g. union, Medicaid reimbursement).
All external researchers must submit both the Liaison Form and the Pre-Recruitment Checklist to the IRB Secretary as soon as possible.
